DEFINITION

A diet which contains different foods in right proportions and variety to sustain growth, maintenance and provide energy for day to day activity of our body preventing diseases and supporting healthy living.

FACTORS AFFECTING BALANCED DIET

AGE- A growing child needs more protein than a grown up man. This protein is needed to make the body tissues of the growing child. A growing child also needs more minerals such as calcium and phosphorus for the formation of bones than a young adult.Thus,according to age the proportion and variety of foods in a balanced diet changes.

GENDER-Male and female bodies are different from each other therefore their calorie requirements and nutritional needs are different so the proportion and variety of foods in a balanced diet will change.

PHYSIOLOGICAL STATE-Physiological state is the physical condition of our body for example if you are suffering from any diseases or if you are a pregnant lady or lactating mother or you are a body builder.In all these cases the proportion and variety of foods in a balanced diet will change.
